Tenants Waiting for Property as Harrogate Rental Demand Soars

Demand for rental property in Harrogate has soared this autumn as professionals and families look for homes in what has become one of the UK’s most desirable hotspots.

Harrogate letting agent FSS has reported its busiest “back to school” rush for several years with the rental market reflecting the same post-lockdown buoyancy as the sales market.

Michael Lebbon of FSS said: “Tenancies are being agreed very quickly on properties of all types and sizes at the moment, particularly those near good schools and with work from home space.

“We have a steady stream of good quality tenants looking for homes in Harrogate and the surrounding towns and villages and we are keen to hear from landlords who can help us meet the demand.

The rental market in Harrogate has been performing well for several years and the recent boost can be put down to many of the same factors that have generated activity in the property market over the summer and autumn.

Demand has also been boosted by the fact that Harrogate recently made national headlines as the best place in the UK to work from home.

Michael said: “Priorities have changed for many tenants through lockdown and those who previously needed to be located close to the office or within easy commuting distance are now realising that they can be more flexible.

“Others are looking for more space, a garden or a place that accepts pets.

“Add to this the fact that we are receiving a lot of enquiries from people who are moving to Harrogate from other parts of the country, either to rent long term or until they find somewhere suitable to buy, and it’s easy to see why demand is so high at the moment.”
