On June 1st letting agents will no longer be able to charge Tenancy Set up fees to tenants, a step that is welcomed by FSS because it will create greater transparency in the rental sector as a whole.
The new laws have been introduced to tackle complaints from tenants in England and Wales who have sometimes found themselves subject to very high charges to simply move into a new home, or to be checked out of their property. Fees are already banned in Scotland.
As one of the largest letting agents in Yorkshire, with over 1000 rental properties in the Harrogate area, we are pleased that tenants will now have greater clarity over the charges associated with renting a home and not be overcharged for services provided.
